December 7, 1941
We had the privilege of being able to visit Pearl Harbor one more time on our recent trip to Hawaii. No matter how many times you go, you can't help but be moved by the historical significance and the emotion found here. All of the memorials at Pearl Harbor are beautifully presented, and, regardless of your feelings about war, I encourage you to spend a day there appreciating what true sacrifice means. This one day, December 7, 1941, did more to change the future of the world than any other day. The eerie view above is from one of the submarine periscopes at the Submarine Museum. You can see the USS Bowfin nearby, and in the distance the Arizona Memorial, the USS Missouri, and the red and white control tower on Ford Island at the Pacific Aviation Museum.
These are the remains of a B-17 now called "Swamp Ghost". In 2006, it was removed from the swamp on Papua New Guinea that it crashed into in 1942, but it has taken 7 years to get it to Hawaii for restoration.
