So, me and a few others...

So, Friday night, Wayne Gretzky lit the Olympic cauldron inside BC Place, then went for a totally bizarre pickup truck ride to Canada Place, where he lit a second outdoor cauldron. Today, Sunday, K and kids came downtown to see me, and we walked over for a look. The Great One wasn't there, but a big chain link fence around the cauldron was... not too attractive!
After having a look at the cauldron, we went for a nice walk along the waterfront, and then headed up to the Granville and Robson area... apparently, about 500,000 other people thought that was a good idea too! Ho-lee Crap! Now I know how that one sardine in the middle of all the other sardines feels! Still, everyone was well-behaved, it was not too hard to move through the crowd, and spirits were high all around! I'm 1/2 way through my little adventure, and now that the Games have begun, the boredom factor has been cut in half, and a part of each day is spent meeting people from all over the world. Sadly, our Canadian athletes have not performed too well so far (you can't call an 18-0 win in hockey an "achievement")... but hopefully the momentum will build and we will add some hardware to the collection!
