Road Trip, Oregon and back, Day 5

Day 5 dawned with the promise of blue skies, and we weren't disappointed.  We left Waldport early, as we had a long ride north, all the way up the coast and then 80km in land ahead of us.  Every viewpoint looked like the one below - endless vistas of miles-long beautiful beaches.   Although it was a Friday, traffic was very light, and progress was good.  In the photo below, you can just see  Three Rocks in the hazy distance.

Three Rocks in close up, from Oceanside, a wonderful little town nailed to the side of the hill.  It was spectacular, the weather was awesome, and so, of course, Fate had to intervene when K's bike would not start.  It was now apparent that there was something wrong with K's bike, so we got it bumped and headed north, post-haste.  A second "cheese stop" was necessary in Tillamook, and another bump start got us going. By now, I was beginning to suspect that K's rectifier/regulator was gone (in English, battery was not being charged), and we were going to be in some trouble.  I knew from past experience that if we kept moving at a certain pace, the bike could generate enough power to keep going.   Of course, I forgot that we would have to crawl through Seaside, OR on Friday afternoon!

And this would be the classic 57 Chevy we parked next to in the UAP/Napa parking lot in Seaside.  We bought a battery charger, and two miles down the road, when K's bike died for good, I returned and bought a new battery.  The new battery got us 100 kms of the 108 kms we had left, and we got to be thankful for our "premium membership" with BCAA that got the bike towed the final 8 kms to the hotel.  It ended up being a very, very, very long day, and finished with us not knowing how we were going to make it the rest of the way home.
