Road Trip, Day 12, Aloha Waikiki!

Our final morning, Sunday October 18, 2009, dawned with the usual sunshine and blue skies, but came with a surprise - substantial waves off Waikiki Beach. The waves were the harbinger of the Trade Winds arrival... as the locals had been complaining about the heat and humidity (what's wrong with them, anyway?), it sounded as if the big winds would be welcomed. I know the surfers were out in full force, taking advantage of the "big" waves off Waikiki.
A glum threesome sits on the sand, watching the wave action. You can literally hear the clock ticking down to the words "Time to go"... sigh...
Diamondhead outlined in the distance from the departure terminal at Honolulu International Airport. So close, and yet so far...
2 hours northeast of Hawaii, the first clouds began to show up... spotting the sky for hundreds of miles. The flight home was plagued by the most terrifying of airplane disasters... no, not an engine falling off and not terrorists... a CRYING BABY right behind us! The only thing more annoying on a long flight than a crying baby is parents who have no idea how to deal with it! Luckily, IPods and movie players with headphones helped drown out most of the noise.
Sunset from 35,000'... you can't help but feel a bit like Superman when you are flying that high and seeing that vista! We landed on schedule in Seattle, shuttled back to our truck, and drove home, arriving about 1am on Monday October 19th, with more than a truckload of memories!
