Road Trip, Day 9, Hanauma Bay, Kailua, Pali
One of the many jewels on Oahu - Hanauma Bay. We snorkeled out to the PacMan-shaped light spot on the left of the photo, in the middle of the bay, and we were treated to the sight of 50+ different species of fish, over a dozen turtles, and a 6' bright blue moray eel.
No, these are not seals or Navy SEAL's... these are just 3 very, very, very happy Canadian tourists snorkeling in Hanauma Bay!
We left Hanauma Bay in the early afternoon and continued around the eastern side of the island. For the movie buffs, this is the famous beach in "From Here to Eternity", where Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr had their big, soggy smooching scene!

Our first view of the amazing Kailua Beach. It is pristine, nearly deserted, has warm, shallow waters to wade, swim and body surf in... no wonder it is continuously voted one of the world's best beaches!
After a short stay at Kailua Beach, and a tasty lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen (highly recommended), it was time to head back. The shortcut from Kailua to Waikiki takes you up the Pali Highway, where you can stop on the Pali Lookout for a view back over a wide expanse of the Windward shore, highlighting Kailua and Kaneohe (big Marine base).
