Achtung, Spitfire!

"Blue Section - SCRAMBLE!" The first 3 Spitfires take to the air to start the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford on Saturday July 10. You have to see it to believe it... goosebumps!
7 and a tail... couldn't get all 8 in! 8 classic Spitfires pass by in formation to salute the crowd... nearly brought tears to our eyes!

The classic "other" British fighter, the Hawker Hurricane, takes to the air.

P51 Mustang "Ferocious Frankie" peels off from the Corsair and the two Hawker Sea Furys... piston-engined power at its most awesome!

This is one serious show! The pilot of the Spitfire behind wears period-correct costume... and don't forget, it's about 30C out when I took this picture. Doesn't that wool uniform look comfy?
So, we finally come to the linchpin of the trip to England - the 2010 Duxford Flying Legends airshow. This has been a dream of mine for years, and to actually sit on the flightline in front of over 40 World War II-era planes was a dream come true. I enjoyed two days of piston-engined glory, sitting front and center (the taxiway was 30' in front of our seating area) and soaking up all of the ambience that I could! It was worth every penny to go "Gold Class", and truly an experience I will never forget (and hopefully will be able to relive again!).
