The Road to Oregon

On Friday July 18, 2014, W and I set off on our long-planned trip south to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.  We left Sumas, WA at 0900 and arrived at our hotel in Newberg, OR at 1930, with 540 kms under our belt and slightly tender backsides!  The weather was absolutely perfect the whole way, with the temperature hovering around 30C when we rode into Oregon at about 1700.  We managed to avoid I-5 and do all but 70 km on back roads and rural highways... a far more pleasant way to travel!  We had several stops along the way, including lunch at one of my faves, the Local Scoop, in Arlington, WA,  where we crossed paths with a group heading to Winthrop, WA for the day.  Other stops included Snoqualmie Falls (very impressive, and the cool mist was a lifesaver as the temperature had climbed nearly 10C since we left Sumas!  We also paused to rest in McKenna, home to a building supply center with cool cement statues, and the Chevron station at I-5 in Centralia, where the Greyhound bus disgorged its cargo of movie extras while we were there... a more interesting group would be hard to put together!
