The Lighter Side of London

So, after lunch at the RAF club (yes, THE RAF CLUB!) with the 88-year old widow of a former Battle of Britain pilot and retired RAF Wing Commander... oh, the stories she tells... K and I had a wonderful wander through the streets of London with the National Gallery as our destination. We arrived at Trafalgar Square to find that they had finally removed the awful stage from the Canada Day celebrations and turned the fountains back on. The sun was shining, and a wonderful breeze was blowing... it was magnificent... until I realized that even though we were 50m from the fountains, I was getting water on the camera... oops! So, after a lovely bask in the sun, we then spent the next 2 hours zooming through the National Gallery... seeing the real thing in the form of Picasso, Van Gogh, Rembrandt... prior to its 6pm closing. We then walked next door to the National Portrait Gallery and had a walk through.

After leaving the Portrait Gallery, we wandered through a large touristy shopping area called Covent Garden. It just so happened that we saw many humourous things on our walk! These two young ladies popped out of a hotel in front of us, wearing matching utterly ridiculous shoes for walking the uneven streets of London. Even more humourous... the girl on the left is carrying a spare set of the same shoes! Aren't you supposed to carry flats to wear after a few hours on 5" stiletto heels?

This guy is one of the many street performers in the main square of Covent Garden... all of whom are very funny. This guy did a great juggling act, culminating with the "behind the back chainsaw toss"... what is even funnier is the two potatoes he has stuffed down the front of his briefs!
I don't even think I really have to say anything about this one, do I? And no, I don't think it's a spelling mistake!

One of the thousands of cool little back-alley shops in London. This one specializes in all sorts of jewellry and metal accoutrements. You could walk the streets of London for days and months, and continually find store after store after store like this... there is a uniqueness to London streets that I have never seen anywhere else. I can't wait to come back!
